CH Briarmoor’s Bugle Boy
Champion Briarmoor’s Bugle Boy “Boomer”
July 29, 1993 – April 28, 2006
Every once in awhile a great dog comes along. This dog becomes a benchmark of comparison for others of its breed.
In 1993, such a dog was born at Briarmoor, his name was CH Briarmoor’s Bugle Boy, or Boomer as he was known to his friends. He became a formidable competitor in the show ring and went on to prove himself an amazing producer within the breed.
From his first points from the puppy class until his final cuts in the Best of Breed ring at the 2005 National Specialty at 12 years of age, Boomer wowed spectators and exhibitors alike with his effortless ground-covering gait and eager showmanship at the end of the lead. He adored the ring and loved to show. He was always “on” in the ring; if anyone’s hand got near a bait pocket, he would hit a perfect stack. Never bored, never resting, he worked of his own free will the entire time he was in the ring. Nothing pleased him more than hearing a cheering, clapping crowd and he loved being the center of attention.
In 1997, he was ranked in the Top Ten in both Breed and All-Breed points in just 35 shows owner handled, placing in the group about one out of every 3 trips to the ring. He did much of his National Specialty winning as a Veteran with wins including 2nd place in the Extended Generations class as well as the final cut for Best Topline in Property classes at the 2005. At the 2003 National, he won the 10 and Over class and made several cuts for Best of Breed. At the 2000 National, he won Best Veteran in Sweepstakes as well as the 7-10 years regular class and also made cuts for Best of Breed. At the 1999 National he won Best Gaited in Property classes as well as the Stud Dog class.
As a sire, he left a lasting impact on the breed by passing along his fabulous topline and movement to many of his offspring. He sired many champions, obedience title holders, and herding titled dogs. In 2007, one of his sons as a veteran himself, maintained #1 All –Breed ranking for most of the year. Several of Boomer’s kids won top awards at National Specialties such as Awards of Merit and Winners Bitch (2003) and Stud Dog class. A grandson was awarded Specialty Best in Show at the 2004 National breeder/owner handled. Another grandson picked up a Best in Show in Argentina. A daughter achieved her Register of Merit in 2005. Several offspring were ranked in the Top Ten over the years. A third grandson won Best of Breed at the 2003 Eukanuba as well as a Bred by Exhibitor group 4th.

While Boomer will be most remembered within the fancy as a great show dog and sire, he was also a wonderful companion for almost 13 years. Despite incredible ring presence at shows, at home he expected little except to share our company. Besides his beautiful conformation, he also had a lovely character. He liked being “right” and therefore seldom got called down for much, except perhaps too-exuberant barking as he chased his ball up and down the fence. Hiking, car rides to nowhere, and digging in a tub in the summer added to Boomer’s general air of content. Although grateful for his lasting contributions to his breed, he is most loved and missed as a companion.
